  4. Qatar Scholarship Engineering Department provides $14,000 The program is already strongly encouraged What other ways could we break stereotypes pertaining to the Middle and Near East?

  5. Dr. Funkhouser • Advised us concerning fundraising, setting up the scholarship fund, and differences between types of funds • “Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.”

  6. Study Abroad Scholarship • Requirements: • GPA of at least 3.o • Non- Native Arab Speaker • Currently receiving financial aid • Studying abroad for one semester or summer session in the Middle or Near East We needed to tie the fund to a student group.

  7. Model Arab League Team • Featured in Reuters • Expressed interest in furthering understanding between American and Eastern culture • Conference takes places at Bush School next year, Spring 2010

  8. Fundraising Events • T-shirt Sales: • Commemorating Third Model Arab League Conference • 50+ attendees • Projected money contributed: $800 • Bake Sale: • Projected money contributed: $200 • Also serves to bond Texas A&M M.A.L. team

  9. Ramadan Tent • 250 attendees first year, projected 300 attendees in 2009 • Iftar, Maghrib prayer, henna, calligraphy, exploration of Islamic culture • Featured in Houston Chronicle

  10. Fundraising • Introduce a $5 charge for the Iftar meal • Food donated, other expenses paid by Department of Defense • Projected money contributed: $1,500

Original Goals • Fund full semester of study abroad including • Transportation • Living Expenses • Tuition and Textbooks • Purpose: • Encourage understanding of Eastern cultures through study abroad • Increased use of Texas A&M Qatar opportunities due to increased knowledge in Aggie community

  12. Revised Goals • Provide two scholarships (1,500 and 1,000) for two study abroad experiences • OR • One scholarship of 2,500 for one experience • Purpose: • Encourage understanding of Eastern cultures through study abroad • Increased use of Texas A&M Qatar opportunities due to increased knowledge in Aggie community
