Community Learning Champions

Join Dawna Lee and Veronica Woode in this workshop to learn about becoming a Community Learning Champion (CLC). Discover how CLCs can enhance community cohesion and build the Big Society. Gain insights on setting up and running CLC projects and promoting the value of learning. Open to all, including ex-offenders and long-term unemployed individuals. This project is funded by NIACE/BIS and offers NVQ training and progression opportunities. Help develop Hackney and make a positive impact on people's lives.

Workshop Aims • To build an understanding of who can become a Community learning Champion – and what being a CLC is. • To know and understand how Community Learning Champions can strengthen community cohesion – build confidence - and help to form the Big Society • To teach participants the basics of how to set up and run a CLC project

  4. What is... • Active in their community • Care about their community • Promote the value of learning to friends families neighbours • People you can trust • Empathetic / Understanding • CDW/Advocate/Angel/Activist/Outreach Workers/Volunteers/Ambassadors

  5. Who can.. • Anyone* • Ex-offenders • Long term unemployed • All ages and experience ********* • Enthusiastic, motivated, good at encouraging others, likes people, good communicators • *Awareness of restrictions/health & safety issues

  6. How we.. • NIACE /BIS Funding • Clear project plan 9mths – budgeted • 30 people, job descriptions, 30 people each • NVQ training included, Pay expenses • Train Community Development Workers • Progression employment /further training • Sustainability/ becoming self sufficient • Develop Hackney – People of hackney

  7. How we..2... • Recruitment stall • Induction day • ALS Induction, intro to the dept • 3 day WEA training • NVQ training/Placements* *CRBs *Placements Agreed with partner orgs

  8. How we.. 3... • Supervised • Team Leaders/ Senior CLCs recruit med • Each responsible for teams • Senior CLC meetings • Total Group meetings • Financial awareness training • Drug awareness training • Childcare Information services training • IAG delivery training

  9. How we.. 4.. • 29 gained Community Section Certificate NVQ 2, 3, 4 • Celebration of Achievement awards ceremony

  10. How you.. • Task • In small groups come up with an idea for a CLC project. • Why • How benefit community, local area? • What will CLCs gain? • How will you deliver? • Brief Project Plan • Share with the group
