  3. Minimum Rest Periods • 10 hrs in any 24 hr • Max 2 periods, one > 6 hrs • 77 in any 7 day period • May still be over-ridden by Master • Administration may allow reduction to 70 hrs in 7 days for 2 weeks and rest in two 24 hr periods to be taken in 3 periods • Signed records to be maintained

  5. New Certificates • Able Seafarer Deck and Engine • Electro-technical Rating and Officer

  6. Management • BRM/ERM • Leadership and Management

  7. Continued Competence • 5 Years • Refresher or Demonstration - Basic Safety - Survival - Advanced Fire

  8. Assessment • Knowledge may be examined • Competencies require practical demonstration • On board through task book • At colleges and assessment centers using simulation • Quality training on board is essential

  9. What is Now Required? • National Implementation by 2017 • Genuine partnerships. • Senior Officers must motivate and train • Focus on Assessment of Competence • Training, Equipment & Resource Commitment + + + Employers Trainers Trainees Regulators
