  2. INTRODUCTION The Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is pleased to organize the 5th Fundamental Science Congress 2013 (FSC 2013). This event has been organized annually since the year 2009. This regional congress aims to bring together academicians, researchers and scientists for inculcating knowledge sharing amongst young researchers in fundamental and applied sciences related to the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics besides informal exchange of ideas amongst peers and pioneers. FSC 2013 serves as a unique platform to foray research findings, novel techniques, ideas, views and commentaries for the benefit of the scientific community (postgraduates, research scientists and academicians) at large. SCOPE The FSC 2013 covers these fundamental science fields: ⦿ Biology ⦿ Chemistry ⦿ Physics ⦿ Mathematics REGISTRATION AND SUBMISSION Registration of participation and submission of abstracts and extended abstracts in softcopy can be done online at our website: http://www.science.upm.edu.my/fsc2013/ IMPORTANT DATES Registration and : 24thAPRIL 2013 Full Payment # Abstract : 24thAPRIL 2013 Submission Extended Abstract : 24th JUNE 2013 Submission FSC 2013 : 20th–21st AUGUST 2013 Remark: # - Only extended abstract with full payment by 24 APRIL 2013 will be published in the proceeding. With Knowledge We Serve Guidelines Abstract Title: Bold; Arial font size 11. Author(s): Full name of authors; underline the name of presenter; font size 10. Author affiliation(s): full addresses of each author in italics; font size 9, provide e-mail address of corresponding author; if more than one institution, indicate address of each author numerically in superscript. Text: One paragraph; font size 11; justified; do not include figures/tables/references; one and half (1.5) spacing; not more than 250 words. Keywords: provide maximum five (5) important keywords Margin: 1.5” left hand border; 1” top, bottom and right borders. Extended Abstract (to be included in the proceedings) Instruction for extended abstract is per abstract above except for rule 4. Text should be divided into: Abstract, Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results & Discussion, Acknowledgement and References. Manuscripts should be strictly limited to not more than 3 pages in Arial font size 10, in single spacing and inclusive of figures and tables. Figures must be of high quality. References should not exceed more than 8, cited in the text by names of author(s) and year, and listed in alphabetical order according to the surname of the first author. If reference is made in the text to a publication written by more than two authors, the name of the first author should be used followed by “et al.” and year. Under reference section, names of all authors need to be included. Tables and figures should be inclusive of text. Poster ☑ Standard size: A1 (58cm x 82cm / 23” x 33”) ☑ Font used should be readable from 2m distance ☑ The posters will be judged based on content, layout and presentation for award.
