  2. Mercury and the Sun • Mercury is the closest planet to the sun • It is thirty-six million miles (58 million kilometers) away from the sun • It takes eighty-eight days to orbit the sun.

  3. Mercury`s Atmosphere • Mercury is the smallest planet in our Solar System two fifths of Earth`s diameter • It has very little atmosphere around it • Mercury has no moons

  4. The surface • Temperatures can be from 400⁰ Celsius to200⁰ Celsius • The surface is covered in craters • It is completely dry and hot.

  5. From earth to Mercury • The first photo graphs of the surface were taken by USA Nasa • These were taken in 1974 and 1975 • It was 0.39 AU from the sun

  6. Special facts • Mercury is named after the messenger of the Roman Gods • This is because it goes around the sun so quickly.
