  1. Staging ServerFunctions and Process

  2. The Staging Server is an eAuthenticated site that requires permissions set by the State Soil Scientist or Regional Office database manager. The Staging Server provides the final validation of data and interpretations between the export out of NASIS and release to the public in Web Soil Survey and other applications.

  3. Staging Server • The Soil Data Warehouse and Data Mart provide the authoritative pathway for distributing current official soil survey data to service centers and to the public. The Staging Site (also called Staging Server) is the step on this pathway where final validation of data is performed before their release. • The two principal points for the collection and editing of data are the National Soil Information System (NASIS), for the tabular data on soil properties and interpretations, and the NRCS Digitizing Units, for the spatial data showing location and extent of soils and related features. • When the State Soil Scientist determines that these data are accurate and complete enough for release to the public, he/she authorizes a survey area to be sent via the Staging Server to the Soil Data Warehouse. This may be a new release or an update of an earlier release, both of which are retained in the warehouse. The Soil Data Mart is a database that is periodically updated to contain only the most current versions of soil surveys from the data warehouse. • Web Soil Survey and other applications use the Soil Data Mart to provide public access to the published data.

  4. In NASIS, load data that you want exported to Staging Server. Under “Exports Explorer”, click on “Add New Export”. In the “Select Criteria tab”, choose Staging Server and also make other selections for Legend Mapunits, Data mapunits and Components.

  5. Click on “Select/View Interps”. This is where you select the National standard suite of interpretations and Regional and local interpretations from “NASIS Site” dropdown list to include in your export to Staging Server.

  6. As you select Interpretations from the different categories in the “NASIS Site” dropdown list, click on “Add to list” and this will bring the Interpretations down into the lower window to be exported.

  7. Click on “Select/View Text”. If needed, include “Text” data from the different Tables to be included in Export.

  8. Click on “Run Export” and you will get an email notification when the Export from NASIS has been Imported to Staging Server

  9. At the Staging Server site, you will see your Imported data. Place check mark and Select Survey.

  10. Status of Tabular and Spatial DataWhen tabular and spatial data have been properly imported, the status will change to “Imported” Spatial data

  11. Spatial Imports will be done by Digitizing Units or GIS specialist on Regional Office staff S
