Moedertaalverwerving • De taalverwerving is voltooid voordat een kind met lezen en schrijven te maken krijgt. • Ook kinderen die later dyslectisch blijken te zijn hebben leren luisteren en spreken in hun moedertaal. • (Engelse) kinderen van 7 jaar beschikken over een woordenschat van ca 5000 ‘ rootwords’.   8. Wat is dyslexie? Problemen met het verwerken van taalklanken: 1. Moeite met auditieve discriminatie en het doorzien van klankstructuur in woord 2. Moeite met manipuleren van taalklanken (fonemen) 3. Koppelen van foneem aan grafeem gaat moeizaam (m.a.w.: problemen met het (alfabetisch ) schrift !) 4. Tekstdekking 300 basiswoorden • Prof Frithfound that when asked to read words and pronounceable non-words, English speakers took longer to begin reading each word, and were even slower when they had to apply a pronunciation to a made-up word.
