IPEDS OverviewPurpose of the Study • The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System is a system of interrelated surveys conducted annually by NCES. • It gathers data on enrollments, program completions, graduation rates, faculty and staff, finances, institutional prices, and student financial aid. • The completion of all IPEDS surveys is mandatory for institutions that participate in or are applicants for participation in any federal student financial aid program (such as Pell grants and federal student loans)

Postsecondary Administrative DataCollege Navigator What is College Navigator? • A free consumer information tool • Designed to help students, parents, high school counselors, and others get information about approximately 7,000 postsecondary institutions in the US and other jurisdictions • Located at: http://collegenavigator.ed.gov

  4. Postsecondary Administrative DataCollege Navigator College Navigator Offers institutional information such as: • Programs offered, degrees awarded • Retention and graduation rates • Price of attendance • Aid available • Campus safety • Accreditation

  5. Postsecondary Administrative DataCollege Navigator • Search – On every page – Guided – Use name or AKA – New search options • Compare – Up to 4 institutions • Favorites – Save up to 15 institutions from different searches

  7. Postsecondary Administrative DataCollege Navigator General information is displayed along with a Google map. Additional details are available by clicking on the plus sign. You can return to your search results by clicking on “Back to Results”.

Postsecondary Administrative DataCollege Navigator • Data Limitations • • Focus on traditional students • Large portion of data presented based on full-time, first-time, degree/certificate seeking undergraduate students (Admissions, estimated student, expenses, financial aid, graduation, transfer out rates) • No net tuition • Estimated student expenses (before aid) • Average amounts of aid received (Federal grants, state and local grants, institutional grants, loans)

  9. IPEDS Data Center These data are made available to students and parents through the College Navigator college search Web site and to researchers and others through the IPEDS Data Center.

  10. IPEDS Data CenterTrend Generator The IPEDS Trend Generator is a quick and easy way to see trends in IPEDS data over time.

  11. IPEDS Data CenterTrend Generator Results can be “limited” by a second variable, shown over time, or used to build a table.

  12. IPEDS Data CenterCollege and Career Tables Library NCES already has thousands of tables available and they can be searched by topic.
