  2. Project to Improve Data Communications and Internet Access • 40,000% increase in average communications speed between the schools and BOE (avg: 256KBPS to 100MBPS) • 650% increase in Internet speed (6MBPS to 45MBPS) • Dedicated data only service connection (Not shared with voice traffic).

Phase IWhat to expect • TCSS contractor will install entrance conduits for Bellsouth access of the fiber optic cable. • Equipment Racks will be installed where needed to house equipment. • Some schools will be retrofitted with new equipment locations and/or have extensions of new service routed to existing LAN equipment.

Phase IIWhat to expect • TCSS Maintenance department will upgrade electrical and grounding to new network equipment D-Marc points as necessary. • TCSS IT Dept. will install and terminate district supplied fiber optic cable to all schools that require D-Marc extensions. • TCSS IT Dept will install or upgrade existing LAN equipment and switches to handle fiber optic handoff from Bellsouth.

Phase IIIWhat to expect • Bellsouth contractor will trench or run aerial fiber optic cable to the school. • Bellsouth contractor will route fiber optic cable through the entrance conduits previously installed by TCSS contractor. • Bellsouth cable specialist will terminate fiber optic cable. • Bellsouth equipment engineers will install fiber control equipment and Cisco routers.

Phase IV • Bellsouth engineers and TCSS IT staff will work to configure equipment to route traffic across the fiber network. • Testing phase will run for 24-hours and switch over will take place following successful test of all equipment. • Removal of old WAN connection equipment and routers. • School will now be fully operational on the new Fiber Optic Wide Area Network.
