  2. What is the relationship between place and literature? • How did English writers respond to their island geography? • How did literature make a nation of an island?

  3. How does literature shape or reflect society? • Why do we need writers? • They help produce culture, and they are the products of it. • Writers celebrate their country, define it, defy it, and tell its story.

  4. What is the relationship of the writer to tradition? • How do writers change what they have inherited?

  5. What is the relationship between place and literature? • How would you describe the geography of the place where you live? • How does living in Atlanta/Smyrna/Georgia affect your daily life? • Briefly explain (3-5 sentences) the affect of geography on your beliefs, ideas, customs, etc.?

  6. How does literature shape or reflect society? • Choose a television program, books or movie that you think best reflects current life in your community. • How does the program or book reflect life today? • Briefly (3-5 sentences) explain your choice and reasons for it.

  7. What is the relationship of the writer to tradition? • Make a list of 3 traditions or stories that have been passed down in your family from generation to generation • Have these traditions been passed down exactly the same way to each generation? • Have they been modified in any way? How? • Briefly explain your tradition/story and then answer the questions.

  8. Additional Instructions • Be prepared to share your ideas in groups and then as a class on Friday. • You can make your work more interesting by adding pictures, etc. • Be creative
