  1. Railway Union Hockey ClubMen's and Ladies’ Club Merger 8th May 2013

  2. Proposal - Why merge? • To be the Number 1 combined club in Ireland! • We are following trends in world hockey as led by the FIH • The Irish Hockey Association is a merged entity formed from separate Men's and Women's Associations • The Leinster branch has followed suit

  3. Merger Committee • Siobhan Smyth • Aoife McCarthy • Helen Johnston • Bruce Thompson • Fiachra Tierney • Conor O'Brien • Supported by Graham Chisholm, John Maguire & Laura Fox • Idea mooted 2010 • Active progression by Merger Committee since May 2012

  4. ‘ONE CLUB BENEFIT’ • Will encourage, promote and develop hockey in Railway by combining resources, enthusiasm & expertise • Will lead to a greater scope for increased fundraising by staging joint ventures and tapping into all contacts • Will result in a combined financial entity, lessening the pressure on both sections (e.g. Ladies re pitch costs & Men's re low membership) • Will lead to a greater number of social activities and support for all teams as members get to mix and know each other more • Will result in more efficient administration and focused committee structures, concentrating of key tasks & development • Will lead to less reliance on ‘key’ individuals as tasks are shared • Pooling of resources will help to increase membership thereby strengthening finances

  5. Pitch Funding • Outstanding bank loan on the pitch will be paid in 2014 • Ladies Hockey pitch hire costs to be reduced over the next two seasons until the loan is paid off • A Pitch Replacement Fund will be established. The men will contribute to this fund from 2013/14 onwards and the ladies as their pitch hire costs reduce

  6. Finances • The ladies' and men's treasurers have been collaborating on the current separate section budgets and forecasts of joint income and expenditure in the merged club - with an anticipated break even position • The men's and ladies' budgets will be closed on the 31st March 2013 and presented at the respective AGMs (on 8th May, prior to the new merged club's AGM) • The men and women will pay the same subs across the various categories of membership. This will involve small reconciliations between the 2 sections. Proposed subs will be presented for approval at the AGM

  7. PROPOSED COMBINED CLUB STRUCTURE • Railway Union Hockey Club • General Committee • President • Deputy President / Executive Rep • Secretary • Treasurer • Club Captain (M) • Club Captain (W) • Supporting Positions • Social Secretary • Fundraising Officer • Sponsorship Officer • Director of Coaching • Website / Communications • Pitch Officer • Railway Lines • Equipment Officer(s) • Umpires Officer • Operational Committee (M) • Club Captain • Fixtures Secretary • Assistant Treasurer • Operational Committee (W) • Club Captain • Fixtures Secretary • Registration Secretary • Assistant Treasurer • Junior Club Committee • Child Protection Officer • Colts Co-ordinator (M) • Colts Co-ordinator (W)

  8. Key Points on Committee Structures • The President will serve for one year • The Deputy President (DP) will serve for one year as DP and then for one year as President • It is envisaged that the Deputy President will also be the Hockey Section's representative on the Executive Committee • One of the General Committee members will be 'The Designated Person' as required under the IHA's Code of Ethics, with the Colts Co-ordinator being the Children's Officer • Draft job roles and reporting relationships have been prepared for the Committee and supporting positions • The General Committee & other positions will be elected at the AGM on 8th May 2013 • Further information, including requests for nomination, to follow

  9. Club Constitution • A new Club Constitution has been prepared • It is a combination of the existing men's and ladies' constitutions/rules, simplified and updated • It is now being circulated to members for feedback • It will be finalised and voted on at the AGM on 8th May 2013

  10. Some Questions & Answers • Q. How will this affect me playing hockey? • A. All agreed pitch training & match times will remain as is for the time being • Q. Will my hockey sub increase? • A. Any proposed changes in subs have to be agreed at the AGM. The men and women will pay the same subs across the various categories of membership. This will involve small reconciliations between the 2 sections • Q. Will the uniform style change? • A. Not at the moment. There may be a club tracksuit for instance, in future seasons
