  1. Sant Ravidas Ji Subject : English Class : 8th Prepared By: Ms. Naresh GSSS Quila Tek Singh, Gurdaspur

  2. Saint Ravidas was born at Banaras in 1377 A.D.

  3. His parents decided to send him to a paathshala for education. But his mind did not take interest in education. His stay at school was short and unhappy because he realize that a child of low cast parent was not treated well.

  4. Ravidas soon found himself at the feet of swami Ramanand to initiated him into spiritual life. A few month discipleships completely changed his life.

  5. His sermons left great impression on his mind and help him to recapture the spirit of the ancient wisdom.

  6. When the guru was satisfied that the flame of soul had bin kindled for ever he asked Ravidas to return home .

  7. His training in spiritual life was yet half complete .He had a desire to have more and more of spiritual knowledge and longed to beautify his soul like the ancient rishi’s . • He would return to a lonely corner of the forest near by for meditation.

  8. One day he was disturbed in his meditation . A dear was struggling to escape because he was caught in a net laid by a hunter. Ravidas ji decided to save the mother and the child He lost no time and began to address the hunter in the following words “we are the children of same loving father love every creature that walks on earth because all forms are sacred.”

  9. A brief contact with a great saint changed him completely a murderer had become a devotee of God . He promised to lead a virtuous life .

  10. People listened spell bound to his voice which uttered words to wisdom in a simple and clear language .

  11. He told people that the distinctions of cast , color and creed where man made . All were equal in the eyes of God.

  12. He exhorted the weaker section of the society not to bow down the wishes of the high cast people. He told them that they should feel the strength of the spirit within them and get rid of all weak thoughts from their minds.

  13. His end came peacefully the spirit past into the eternal spirit ,the light blended into the light of immortality
