  10. Expo Astana 2017 Future Energy is conceived as an extensive, integral project that addresses the fascinating topic of energy from several perspectives, allowing for it to be contemplated as a determining factor in how societies and everyday life function.

  11. Future Energy has the clear objective—exploring strategies, programmes and technologies aimed at sustainable energy development, promoting energy security and efficiency, encouraging the use of renewable energy, and guiding visitors through their essential, active role in the design and execution of a plan for energy efficient production and use.

  12. Definition Both in its construction as well as in the message it conveys, Future Energy presupposes an abstraction that assumes the adoption, implementation and use of the best energy practices for the immediate future, condiciosinequa non for sustainable development. Future Energy also contemplates raising awareness regarding energy as an inherent asset of humanity that should be used responsibly and efficiently.

  13. The mission of Future Energy is to appeal to the international community’s sense of responsibility by way of institutions, organizations, corporations, and individuals, with the aim of generating debate and awareness regarding the decisive impact that energy management has on the lives of people and that of the planet.

  14. Vision The vision of Future Energy is to highlight solutions and paths that ensure sustainable energy management. These pathways are aimed at: • combating climate change and reducing CO2 emissions; • promoting energy alternatives – renewable energy in particular – and driving energy efficiency programmes; • ensuring energy security; • managing energy production, storage and use; • and guaranteeing universal access to sustainable energy;

  15. The key concepts of Astana EXPO 2017 – socio-economic and environmental – derive from the contemplation of energy use in a context linked with sustainable development. Key concepts, addressed within the project In regard to the socio-economic sphere: Promoting renewable energy and other energy alternatives Energy efficiency and responsible consumption Electrification of transport Universal access to clean energy Energy security The inseparability of energy and matter, life, and human beings

  16. In regard to the environmental sphere: Fossil energy resources, limited and highly polluting in their use as the primary source of electric energy Global warming and climate change Pollution and its health risks Reduction in fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions

  17. Dedicating an International Exposition to the theme of FUTURE ENERGY entails thinking about a topic that is basic to our existence and critical for safeguarding and improving our quality of life. This is the case especially since the more or less conventional energy sources powering our machines, heating our homes and lighting our cities are triggering uncertainty and alarm because of their progressive depletion, their viability and the serious impact of their use on the planet, our health and our security.
