Chapter 10 Fluids

Chapter 10 Fluids. 4 phases of matter solid, liquid, gas, plasma. Liquids and gases will collectively be referred to as fluids. 10-1 Density. We will use the symbol r for density r = m/v See example 10-1 p276 See density chart p 276. 10-2 Pressure in Fluids. Pressure=P=F/A

  1. Chapter 10Fluids 4 phases of matter solid, liquid, gas, plasma. Liquids and gases will collectively be referred to as fluids.

  2. 10-1 Density • We will use the symbol r for density • r= m/v • See example 10-1 p276 • See density chart p 276

  3. 10-2 Pressure in Fluids • Pressure=P=F/A • P= F/A=mgh/A • P=F/A=rAgh/A so P=rgh • See Example 10-2 p278

  4. 10-3 Atomospheric Pressure • 1 atm= 1.013 x105 N/m2 = 1.013 x105 pa • The SI unit for pressure is the Pascal • 1 bar = 100 kPa • Guage pressure is pressure measured at a local guage. • To get absolute pressure, one must add the atomospheric pressure, Pa , to gauge pressure.

  5. Homework • P304 pr#1-11 due Thursday BOP.
