  • The CD-ROM (about 700 MB) and DVD-ROM (about 4.7 GB) are accepted computer storage formats for optical disks

  • The next technology is two-level DVDs that will store about 10 GB

    • Blue-Ray (Sony) Vs HD-DVD (Toshiba)

    • Toshiba has just announced it is withdrawing HD-DVD

    • Expect more products and advertising soon

  • Computer Monitoring software – types:

    • Detect and monitor another computer on a network

      • “Monitor” often means screen shots

    • Keyboard logger – log or record all keystrokes, send the log to someone else (a hacker?)

    • Presence technology – sometimes can locate computer or device physically (GPS etc.)

  • Employee monitoring – like computer monitoring, except better access to computer

    • Software can be installed without your knowledge, by clicking on a link, for example in an online greeting card or email

    • DB: Tracking Cookie – looks at other cookies

  • What can you put in a cell?

    • Text (usually as a label)

    • Number (types)

      • Entry grayed out until you do this

  • +, -, *, / combine with ( & )

    • Entering a cell address processes the contents of that cell

    • Enter address by typing or (better) by clicking

    • What you see in the cell is the results of the formula – see the formula on the formula bar

      • Seeing formulae in cells

  • Other formulae operate on range(s)

    • Sum, Average, Min, Max

  • Excel formulae are live !!!
