What does a Public Relations Agency do?<br>Public relations, or PR, is a world where the public interest is at the forefront. The public relations strategy chosen will determine the success of any event or campaign, no matter if it's a PR specialist who helps a company to improve its image or a person helping to elect a politician. And therein lays the real difference between an effective PR and a poor one. Poor public relations strategies will not produce satisfactory results. The public doesn't need to know what's happening at the moment. They'll have to focus on the present. A good public rela

  1. So, that is a broad, philosophical description of what a public relations agency does, at a broadest level. Let's now discuss what a professional in public relations does. A public relations specialist is responsible for gathering and disseminating information, and responding to any requests. They also work to keep any public figures who are in the public eye in good standing with the various news agencies and other media groups. Public figures can include politicians, athletes, talk show hosts, etc. Public relations specialists usually manage or supervise the PR campaigns for these public figures. Another aspect of public relations that isn't as philosophical is what happens when the public relations agency is asked to do a piece of investigative work for a newspaper, magazine, television station, etc. Sometimes this type of newsgathering is referred to as "behind the scene" work. Because reporters or other media personnel don't wish to deal with the press releases and public relations, this type of coverage may require the assistance of a PR company. The agency will handle the entire PR effort, making sure the story is accurate and well-kept. A public relations agency will sometimes be called upon to defend a particular company, politician, athlete or celebrity against an attack advertisement or defamation suit. In this case, the company's reputation is at stake, and the agency needs to do everything possible to defend it in the court of public opinion. Media personalities can sometimes get themselves into hot water, especially if they react negatively to a negative piece of news. The same goes for sports teams, healthcare public relations agency business people, bands and musicians. Public relations agencies may be asked to represent a public figure accused of sexual harassment, or any other crime. The PR agency may need to develop a variety of public statements and social media strategies in order to defend the individual. The firm may also have to make available certain information about the situation, perhaps compiling a list of sexual harassing incidents that have come up in recent weeks, months or days. These statements can be posted on social media and in press releases. Another type of public relations function that many PR agencies perform is that of media liaison, meaning that they work with other entities such as newspapers, radio stations and television stations to get news out about a specific company, organization or person. It could include creating press releases and personal correspondences. An PR firm might be able to post news about new products or services on the shelves of stores at the exact same time it goes public. This liaison can also be used to maintain celebrity reputations. Public relations agencies often write articles for magazines and newspapers that are publicized. These are generally written by freelance writers who are contracted through a good agency. They create articles specifically for that product and then post them on various directories. If the articles are used in the proper context and with proper keyword search, a PR company can help to increase the website traffic for a product or service by appearing in an informative way on the web. A PR firm will be good at finding keywords that are likely to draw attention to a product. When it comes to social media, there are not many limits to what can be written and published about a business or organization. For instance, a public relations firm can go onto Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or LinkedIn and write press releases or commentaries about the company or brand. Blogs are the same. An PR company can create blogs relevant to the business, and post links to their website or Facebook pages whenever it is interesting. This allows you to market your brand, and keeps the public updated about new trends and events.
