What is Strengthening Families? • Based on national research and evidence that shows families thrive when these factors are present: • Parental resilience • Social connections • Knowledge of parenting and child development • Concrete support in times of need • Social and emotional competence of children

How to do this when you are already stretched? • Development team— • Helen Jones, Ph.D., UWWA SFU and SFWA Project Coordinator • Michelle Morris, Senior Manager, Volunteer Center, United Way of Snohomish County (formerly with 211 WA) • Robin Higa, Parent Leader Consultant, National Alliance of Children's Trust and Prevention Funds & Chair of the Community Café Collaborative

  4. Development Team Plan • Observe at 211 center • Develop orientation • Listen for evidence or lack of Protective Factors • Slight modifications in questions • A new question or two to add to menu

  5. Development Timeline • Observations – July 8-14 • Propose to Directors – July 9 • Develop orientation – July 13-17 • Prepare materials – July 20-24
