  3. Bottlenose dolphin They communicate using a variety of moans, groans, squeaks, whistles, grunts, snapping of their jaws, slapping their tails on the surface of the water, butting heads, and by using body language. They have tiny hair follicles on their body, breath oxygen from their blowhole(located on the top of their head), warm blooded and give birth to live young; making the bottlenose dolphin a mammal Bottlenose dolphins are usually found in warm, tropical waters Their sense of smell is very poor but their sense of hearing is magnificent Usually dolphins are found in pods(group of dolphins ) and hunt together to feed on small fish. They work together by herding the fish into a small, circular group and they take turns zipping through the circle of fish to eat. Back

  4. Orca Whales • Orca whales are mammals that are known for their black and white markings • Orcas are toothed whales and feed on fish and small animals • Orca whales can get up to 27-33 feet long and can weigh anywhere from 8,000-12,000!!lbs • Males are larger than females and their dorsal fin(fin that is located on the top of their body) is higher and is straight up, females are shorter and curved a little • They can swim up to 30 miles per hour • Orca use echolocation(using echo's to locate their pray), whistles, and scream-like pulses; these are used to communicate with other orcas, for mating purposes, and for locating prey. • Orcas are usually never alone and hunt/move in pods Back

  5. Whale Sharks • Whale sharks are very interesting creatures • People get confused when they hear “whale” “shark”. Whale sharks are actually fish and not whales • They are also the largest known fish on the planet, but are really gentle • Even more interesting is that they eat only plankton - Plankton are really small creatures that life in the ocean • They are known as filter feeders which means they scoop up a bunch of water with their mouths and filter all the water through their teeth, leaving only the plankton • Usually grow to be 40 feet long and weigh close to 20 tons!! Back

  6. Octopus • There are over 200 kinds of Octopus • They are invertebrates • They prefer to stay in shallow waters with rocks and reefs • They are known for their ability to defend themselves with ink and some can change colors to blend in with • Octopus are very smart • It is recorded that they use their skills in defense and in hunting • scientific studies say that octopus have both short and long term memory • They can reach speeds up to 25 miles per hour • Since there are so many species there sizes and colors vary Back

Great White Shark • Great white sharks have a slate-gray body with a white belly • When born the baby sharks(pups) leave their mothers right away so they are on their own right from the start • They grow up to 15 feet long and can weigh up to 5000 lbs • Great whites are the largest predatory fish on Earth and have been around for 350 million years!! • They can swim up to 43 miles per hour • Sharks skeletons are made of cartilage, just like our noses  Back

  8. Seahorses • Seahorses come in all interesting shapes and sizes • Seahorses are found in tropical climates, usually found holding onto a reef with its tail • They are one of the only animals who have mates for life • One of the most interesting facts about the seahorse is that males are the ones who have the babies!! • They move themselves by using a small fin on their back that flutters up to 35 times per second. Back

  9. Starfish • The starfish are not actually fish they are echinoderm - they are closely related to sea urchins and sand dollars • Starfish(sea stars) are not only famous for their shape but for their ability to regrow limbs that have been destroyed • Each order of the starfish underlines - 100 different species • Sea stars can come in a variety of sizes - Some can get up to 11 lbs Back
