Short Answer: 25 points • Be able to identify evidence from Letter from Birmingham Jail and be able to analyze how King’s argument effectively or ineffectively responds to the claims of the clergy men. • Be able to explain the difference between a memoir an autobiography and narrative writing. • Be able to identify the theme in a memoir passage (such as with When I Was Puerto Rican)

  4. Rhetoric (20 points) • Define and identify logos, pathos, ethos • Draw, label, and explain the rhetorical triangle • Define Rhetoric and the goal of persuasive writing • Know what a free write is. Explain it’s place in the writing process.

  5. Identifying Appeals • Read an excerpt from Letter fromBirmingham Jail and be able to identify examples of logos pathos and ethos (12 points) • Read new text examples. Identify if each is logos, pathos or ethos and explain your choice (25 points)

  6. Words of the Day • Be able to define and use in a sentence the following words (18 points): • Disobedience • Doldrums • Clamorous • Reconcile • Ineffable • Euphoric • Impinge • Alleviate • Appeal
