Role and Contribution of Accredited Organisations • In 2008, contributed about HK$4 – 5 billion. • supported the manufacturing, export and other service industries, • an integral part of the overall supply chain • provides high volume of services for consumer products manufactured in HK and Pearl River Delta Region of China, in particular, toys electrical and electronic goods, textiles, garments and footwear. • Through providing assurance to overseas buyers on the quality and safety of products / services, the industry has played an important part in the economic development of HK

The industry has also contributed to the development of HK as a business service centre • A credible testing and certification services attracted multi-national companies to set up buying offices and even regional headquarters in HK • Given that HK has already achieved a per capita GDP of around 30,000, HK needs to compete on the quality front and to further climb up the value chain
