  2. Entrepreneurship Competition What is it? A competition with three stages and series of events building up to the business plan competition in May 3 stages Idea summary due end of November 2006 Executive summary due end of February 2007 Business plan due mid May 2007

  3. The Process

  4. Competition Outline November 30, 2006---- 1K Idea due online by 5pm December 6, 2006---- 1K Award Ceremony March 1, 2007 ----Executive Summary due online by 5pm May 9, 2007----Business Plans due online by 5pm

  5. Requirements • Any UCSD student of ANY Major! • Teams can be made of anywhere from 2-6 people but one has to be a UCSD student • Must have submitted an executive summary in order to enter the last phase • Ventures that have received prior equity funding of greater than $50,000 are excluded from the competition • Competition participants are not allowed to contact judges and judges are not allowed to contact participants during the course of the competition. 

  6. Judging • 10 judges from all sectors will be judging all three rounds • Judge selection is very selective • $1000 idea summary will be judged on the presentation of the idea

Intellectual Property/Confidentiality • Only the judges assigned to read business plans will have access to the details of the plans.  • Only the judges assigned to read business plans will have access to the details of the plans.  • Entrants should feel free to mark plans as confidential and should feel free to exclude any information that is considered to be truly proprietary. • Judges, mentors, staff, and audience members will not be asked to agree to or sign non-disclosure statements.

Intellectual Property/Confidentiality • All public sessions of the competition, including the final oral business plan presentations will be open to the public.  Any information or data discussed in the public sessions should be considered information that is likely to enter the public domain. Competitors should not assume any right of confidentiality to any information presented or discussed in public sessions.  Please be aware that public sessions may be attended by members of the media, potential competitors, and members of the financial community. • By participating in the competition, participants agree that the Triton Innovation Network assumes no liability whatsoever for disclosures of business plan information that occur during the course of the competition

  9. What are the Judges Looking for?

Idea Summary (Fall Quarter) Submissions will be judged on a variety of criteria: • Technological innovation • Identification of market need/opportunity • Business potential 1-2 page summary of your idea and why you think it’s profitable (service or product) DUE: November 30, 2006 by 5pm online at www.ucsd50k.com

Executive Summary / Business Plan - $50k Competition • Submissions will be judged on a variety of criteria: • The identification of market need/opportunity • The business model • Revenue growth & profit • Sustainable competitive advantage • The clarity and efficiency of the summary • The Management Team • Communication/Presentation Ability • Market and Financial projections • Whether or not the Judge would invest in the company • 2-3 pages of an outline of your business idea and business plan= Executive summary • Due: March 1, 2007 by 5pm online at www.ucsd50k.com
