Prevent Your Wood from Cracking and Splitting with Log Cabin Wood Sealer

Cracking and splitting naturally occur to wood when it is constantly exposed to different weather conditions. The phenomenon is also known as u2018checksu2019, and it happens when the wood dries and shrinks in the process. Shrinking can occur around twice as much around the growth rings compared to the amount across the rings, and the unevenness causes cracks and splits to develop. It can be difficult to tell where checks will appear on your log cabin, but you can prevent them when the wood is properly sealed. Just be sure to look for a specially formulated log cabin wood sealer that is EPA-registered and designed to control the growth and presence of decay-controlling organisms such as termites, powder post beetles, and mold.

  1. Prevent Your Wood from Cracking and Splitting with Log Cabin Wood Sealer Cracking and splitting naturally occur to wood when it is constantly exposed to different weather conditions. The phenomenon is also known as ‘checks’, and it happens when the wood dries and shrinks in the process. Shrinking can occur around twice as much around the growth rings compared to the amount across the rings, and the unevenness causes cracks and splits to develop. It can be difficult to tell where checks will appear on your log cabin, but you can prevent them when the wood is properly sealed. Just be sure to look for a specially formulated log cabin wood sealer that is EPA-registered and designed to control the growth and presence of decay- controlling organisms such as termites, powder post beetles, and mold. A good log cabin wood sealer like Q8 Log Oil will work even on pressure treated logs. It will effectively repel water, and once applied, it provides a non-film forming exterior that will not peel or crack. Consider a wood sealer that can penetrate deeper into the log, and make sure it can provide utmost protection, even with one coat application. The finish should be in a sheer trans- oxide color. Some products come in pre-tinted colors that can be applied on decks, too. You can also get them in quarts, in case you require end-cut treatment to validate warranties on wood products by Outdoor, Wolmanized, and Thompsonized. An effective log cabin wood sealer will not just prevent splitting and cracking. It will stop rotting, mold and fungi growth, and termite infestation. It can repel powder post beetles, too, as the formulation is toxic to these insects. The application should be safe as it meets all the local, state, and federal volatile organic compound (VOC) restrictions, so you do not have to worry about harmful fumes that can harm your health and well-being down the line. You can apply it even without corn-cob removal, and it will not require sandblasting or sanding for recoating.
