  1. Welcome! Social Studies Alive! Our Community and Beyond

  2. What Is TCI? TCI is a K-12 publishing company created by teachers, for teachers. We believe the best teaching marries great content, meaningful technology, and interactive classroom experiences. The end result — students of all abilities and learning styles succeed.

  3. Elementary School Program Goals • Make elementary social studies engaging for all students. • Develop students’ literacy skills in the content area. • Help students succeed on high-stakes district, state, and national assessments. • To inspire students with memorable activities based on state and Common Core standards.

  4. Lesson: Where in the World Is Our Community? In a Visual Discovery activity, students act as space shuttle astronauts who are returning to Earth and learn about geographic features of the globe as they get nearer and nearer to their landing site.

  5. Lesson: How Does Global Trade Affect Our Community? In an Experiential Exercise, students take on the roles of countries around the world and use a ball of yarn to create a trade web connecting all of the countries to one another.

  6. Lesson: How Does Our Economy Work? In an Experiential Exercise, students discover what happens to prices when supply and demand change. Then they predict what will happen to prices in hypothetical situations that affect supply or demand.
