  2. Why this workshop? Before we begin, a story...

  4. Workshop • A meeting during which experienced persons in responsible positions come together with experts to find solutions to problems that have cropped up in the course of their work. • Active involvement by each participant who works and learns from practical (hands-on) experience.

  5. Thisworkshop will focus on: Basics of biomedical statistics especially related to pharmacology

  6. Objectives At the end of this workshop, a participant shall be able to: • Appreciate the importance of statistics in research • Understand the principles of selecting a statistical test • Gain insight into the necessity for eliminating bias in experimental work • Use and apply some of the commonly used statistical tests and methods • Report statistical methods correctly in scientific publications Chi square

  7. How will we go about it? • Introduction by the resource person • Tasks – using a computer • Discuss the problem you had while doing the task with the resource persons • Interact with the whole group

  8. During the workshop • Please be on time. Especially after the breaks. • Do not hesitate to ask questions, voice your opinions or disagree with the resource person. • There may be more than one correct answer for a question. • Some questions may not have an answer as yet. • There is no single correct method of doing anything - even the faculty may disagree among themselves on some points. • Try to finish the given task within the allotted time.

  9. … a few assumptions… • Most participants will have access to a PC. • You will use a computer to analyze data • Beginners as far as statistics are concerned. • Very much interested in learning statistics. • Will use the skills learnt today • Will continue to learn and update yourself by self-learning.
