  1. Boys VS. Girls

  2. Question • Do males or females have a better memory?

  3. Purpose • The purpose of this project is to see if boys or girls have better memory. This would be good to know because if you lost your car keys you would know where they’re at.

  4. Hypothesis We hypothesize that boys have better memory because boys want to focus on what is being done more than girls.

  5. Procedure

  6. Materials 5 word lists with 15 words each Stop watch Elmo 110 pieces of paper 21 pencils

  7. Variables • Manipulated/Independent : Male or Female • Responding/Dependent: Number of words correctly recalled • Constant: Time to complete list and amount of words

  8. Directions • Create 5 different word lists • Distribute blank piece of paper student in class room and have them write male or female on the top of the paper • Place one list on the Elmo then let the class look at the list for one minute. Then remove the paper. • Set the timer for three minutes. Have the class individually recall as many words as they can in the three minutes by writing them on the blank paper. • Collect and count the number of correct words on each paper. • Calculate the average number correct for boys and for girls. Record on data chart. • Repeat steps 2-6 for four more trials.

  9. Conclusion • Our hypothesis is incorrect. Females have better memory than males . The average male memory recall was 9.27 words. The females’ average was 9.61 words. We learned that females have better memory than males in recallingwords, but what if they had to memorize math facts? We would like to conduct this again using this new variable.
