  3. Event Summary • On November 12, 2001 American Airlines Flight 587 crashed in to a New York neighborhood.

  4. Accident Description • The flight took off from John F. Kennedy International Airport, Jamaica, New York on November 12, 2001. • When encountering turbulence the pilot franticly tried to free the plane from the turbulence by putting large amounts of pressure on the rudder. • Shortly after take off the vertical stabilizer and rudder separated from the plane while encountering turbulence.

  6. Deaths • There were 2 flight crewmembers, 7 flight attendants, and 251 passengers on the plane. • All 260 people on the plane died. • 5 people on the ground were also killed.
