  3. Housekeeping Ward Elementary collects the following items: • Cleaned drink cans (any) • Coke Caps • Box tops Make sure you “link” your grocery cards to Ward.

  7. Lifelong Learners • We focus on preparing our students to be lifelong learners. • Exposing them to Colleges and Universities. • Thinking about their careers for the future. • Reminding them that everyone may not choose to go to College but directly into a career.

  8. Language Arts • Imagine It! Reading • Unit 1 Friendship • Unit 2 Animals and Their Habitats • End of Quarter Assessments will be the week of October 28th.

  9. How Can I Help My Child with Reading Comprehension? • Who were the characters? • Where does the story take place? • What’s the author’s purpose for writing the story? • What is the main idea, how do you know? Give me the details. • Why do you believe the story ended this way?

  10. Math Objectives • Graphs • Line Plots, Bar Graphs, Pictographs • Fluency of addition & subtraction • Please practice these skills at home! • Place Value • MULTIPLICATION!!! • Word Problems

  11. Math Throughout the Year • Multiplication • Division • Time • Fractions • Patterns • Word Problems!

  12. How Can I Help with Math? • Use addition and subtraction flash cards to help with fluency • Make your own • Deck of cards • Use receipts • Have your child write his/her own math problem for you to solve.

  13. Writing • Students will apply strategies to create oral, written, and visual texts through sharing literature, composing writing samples, and producing work that follows the conventions of genres.

  14. Tips for Parents • Listen to your children read every night. • READ, READ, READ! • Keep a bed time schedule for your children, sleep helps them to perform better in class. • Go over homework with your child. • Communicate with the teachers. • Ask QUESTIONS!
