  2. PURPOSE OF THE DEMENTIA ADVISORY SERVICE (DAS) Raise awareness of dementia in the community Provide support to dementia service networks in the Inner West Support family carers

  3. TARGET GROUPS People with dementia Carers and families Service providers and health professionals General community in the Inner West(Ashfield, Burwood, Canterbury, Canada Bay, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Strathfield LGAs)

  4. THE ROLE OF THE DAS Provide information and support to people with dementia and their carers at key stages Support local carer support groups Promote dementia education and training opportunities to HACC services Create awareness of the special needs of younger people with dementia

DAS ROLE cont’d Work closely with allied health and other community-based service providers in providing a comprehensive service for people with dementia and their carers Create an awareness of, and appropriate responses to the needs of all people with dementia including those from a CALD or ATSI background Develop dementia networks across the area 5

  6. LIVING WITH MEMORY LOSS PROGRAM Information and support group for people living with early stage dementia, their family members and friends 2 hours per week over six weeks Carers and people with dementia meet separately Facilitated by group workers from AANSW Opportunity to discuss relevant issues and access information regarding dementia 6

  7. Dementia Cafés Inner West Dementia Carers’ Group Information sessions in Ashfield area in English, Chinese and Italian Family Carer education sessions in conjunction with Alzheimer’s Australia Convenor and chair of the Inner West Dementia Network meetings Projects such as Carers Break and Carer Education days OTHER DAS ACTIVITIES
