Being Responsible is: • Getting to class on time (using time wisely) • Bringing all needed materials • Dressing appropriately and wearing lanyard and ID around your neck • Working hard, completing and turning in assignments on time • Doing your personal best on all assignments • Keeping all electronics in lockers from 7:35-2:35 • Stay in your team area • Locking your lockers and keeping the code private • Cleaning up after yourself • Staying Healthy • Following school-wide expectations throughout the entire building • Always wearing your lanyard • Keeping locker locked and the combination kept private • Report problems to a teacher

7. Being Responsible is NOT: • Being somewhere in the building without permission • Being tardy to class • Running and/or engaging in horse play in the halls • Having ear buds in, head phones on or phones out during school day • Not following expectations when you think no one is looking • Throwing trash on the floor • Leaving belongings out in the open • Not following an adult’s instructions • Failing to turn in homework/study • Bringing unnecessary items to class

8. Being Respectful is: • Actively listening while others are speaking • Using appropriate language, volume, and tone (6-inch voice unless presenting or in high-volume area) • Keeping body, hands, feet, and other objects to yourself • Walking unless stopped at locker • Valuing others’ property • Raising hand before speaking in classroom • Walk and talk in the hallway • Use facilities and resources appropriately • Accepting consequences

9. Being Respectful is NOT: • Calling others names, giving dirty looks, or otherwise treating someone in a way that you would not want to be treated • Talking back or arguing with a teacher • Talking while someone else in the classroom is talking • Having to be given a directive more than once • Taking something that does not belong to you • Rolling eyes or giving other negative nonverbal communication to others • Using profanity

10. Being Safe is: • Advocating for yourself • Following teacher’s expectations • Knowing and following emergency procedures • Keeping hands, feet, and objects to yourself • Walking on the right side of the hallway • Keep your phone in your locker during the school day • Carry necessary medical/health devices on with you • Staying seated, facing forward on the bus • Getting on and off at the correct bus stop

11. Being Safe is NOT: • Running • Pushing, hitting, kicking, or tripping someone • Walking on the wrong side of the hallway • Blocking an entrance/exit • Using phones to post videos/photos to social media • Talking with your mouth full in the cafeteraia • Throwing food/drinks in the cafeteria • Climbing on furniture or bleachers • Participating in the latest “challenge”

12. What Happens When I Consistently Display the 4 Be’s? • You will receive dawg bucks to recognize and reward your excellent behavior. • Adults in the building will randomly give these to you when they catch you displaying any of the four Be’s. • DAWG bucks can be saved and spent on various rewards.

15. What Happens When I Don’t Demonstrate the 4 Be’s? • Your teacher will address the behavior per their individual classroom management plan. • If behaviors continue, teacher will follow school-wide discipline plan.

16. School-Wide Behavior Management Plan This plan is cumulative and includes infractions addressed by any staff member all year long. • First Infraction – Student & Parent Notification & Formal Behavior Tracking Plan • Second Infraction – Parent Contact, Team-Student Meeting, and Detention Assigned by Teacher • Third Infraction – Parent Contact, Grade-Level Team-Parent Meeting, and Friday School Assigned by Teacher • Fourth Infraction – Parent Contact, FBA Conducted, BIP Created and Implemented, Friday School Assigned by Teacher

17. Behavior Management Plan Continued • Fifth Infraction – Parent Contact, Friday School Assigned by Teacher, Student & Parent informed that future infractions will be disciplined progressively by grade level administrator • Sixth Infraction – Referral to Administrator, Administrator Conference and Parent Contact • Seventh through Tenth Infractions – Consequences – Referral to administrator, Progressive administrator assigned consequences including ISS, OSS, and potentially and alternative learning environment

18. Corporation Rules for Safety and Security • There are 10 infractions that warrant swift and severe consequences throughout the corporation. • These are on pages 23-34 of your student handbook that can be found on the EMS webpage. Please read these carefully!! • You have signed a document stating that you have read and understand these expectations. • Engaging in these behaviors will likely get you suspended or expelled.

20. Tardy Policy (Per Class, Quarter) • Tardies are counted per period. • Students need to be in the classroom when the bell rings. • Students tardy to 1st period need to be sent to the office for the come late/stay late process. • 1st Tardy to class – Verbal warning • 2nd Tardy to class – Verbal warning and parent notification • 3rd Tardy to class – Lunch detention in ISS and parent notification, guidance notification • 4th Tardy to class – After school detention and parent notification • 5th Tardy to class – After school and administration notification • Every Tardy beyond 5 – Friday School • Tardies will reset at the end of Semester 1

21. Come Late/Stay Late Policy Tardies to 1st Period • Students arriving to school past 7:35 must report to the main office. • All first period tardies will be assigned consequences from the office. • 1st Tardy to 1st Period – Verbal warning • 2nd Tardy to 1st Period –Verbal warning, parent notification by student • 3rd Tardy to 1st Period – Lunch detention in ISS, parent notification by office, guidance notification • 4th Tardy to 1st Period – After school detention, parent notification by student • 5th Tardy to 1st Period – After school, parent notification by student, and administration notification • Every Tardy to 1st Period beyond 5 – Friday School • Tardies to School will reset after each quarter.

22. ID/Lanyards Policy, Per Quarter • Students should be wearing their lanyard AND ID AROUND THE NECK at ALL TIMES while in the building with the exception of in the gymnasium during P.E. Class. • Students who come to school with no lanyard/ID should report immediately to guidance to pick up a loner lanyard. • Students with loner lanyards/IDs will leave last period at 2:34pm to return the lanyard/ID to guidance at the end of the day. Damaged or unreturned lanyards/IDs will be replaced by the student for $4. • If a student lanyard/ID is delivered during the day, the student will NOT be exempt from consequences • If a student lanyard/ID is delivered during the day, it can be picked up in the guidance office on the way to lunch or related arts. • 1st NO Lanyard/ID Offense – Verbal warning • 2nd NO Lanyard/ID Offense – Verbal warning, parent notification by student • 3rd NO Lanyard/ID Offense – Lunch detention in ISS, parent notification by student and office, guidance notification • 4th NO Lanyard/ID Offense – After school detention and parent notification • 5th NO Lanyard/ID Offense – After school detention and administration notification • Every NO Lanyard/ID Offense beyond 5 – Friday School

23. Personal Electronics • Cell phones should not be used by students or visible any time during the day between 7:35 AM and 2:35 PM, unless given express permission by a teacher for use in class. • Devices capable of sending communications (texts, posts, snapchats, photos, vines, etc.) should not be used between 7:35 AM and 2:35 PM. Apple Watches may be worn to tell time and to use other non-messaging functions, such as calculator, fitness tracking, etc. • At no time can cell phones, or particularly camera phones, be used to invade the privacy of another student. • Be aware that taking pictures and/or videos of other students to/from school, while at school, on the bus, or at the bus stop could result in significant disciplinary action. • 1st Cell Phone Offense – Verbal Warning (*If potential/actual harm caused to others/self or any violation of other school rules/laws, consequences will be swifter.) • 2nd Cell Phone Offense – Phone is confiscated and taken to office for student pick up at the end of the day. • 3rd Cell Phone Offense – Phone is confiscated and taken to office for parent/guardian pick up • 4th Cell Phone Offense – Daily check in/out process implemented

24. Dress Code • The dress code is in place to ensure that clothing worn to school does not become a disruption to the learning environment. • If the shirt contains text or graphics, it must be appropriate. • No sexual, drug, violent, or gang references, pictures, or innuendos; or demeaning messages. • Shirts should not have tears, holes, or openings that bare the shoulder, midriff, side, back, or any other area normally covered by a solid shirt with sleeves. • Clothing should be constructed and worn in a manner that is not unduly revealing. Tops would include tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, backless shirts, spaghetti straps, sheer or fishnet shirts or other tops that expose the midriffs. Pants, shorts, and skirts must also not be unduly revealing and follow the four inch rule as a guide.

25. Dress Code – Pants, Skirts, Shorts, Dresses, and Leggings • Pants should be worn at the waist and should not drag on the floor. • Pants, shorts, skirts, and dresses should not have tears, holes or rips higher than fingertips.

26. Other Potential Problems • Student File Storage – Flash drives are not permitted at BCSC. All students have unlimited file storage in Microsoft OneDrive for Business. • Student Videography/Photography/Flash/Flashlight– Students are not permitted take photographs or videos at school or on the bus. Additionally students should never use their flashlight or camera flash on the bus. • Students are not permitted to sell or buy anything from other students during the school-day. This includes shoes. • Students are not permitted to share food at lunch. This includes touching someone else’s food, including packaging, even as a joke.

27. Other Potential Problems Cont. • Pranks, Jokes, or Challenges seen on YouTube, Vine, or any other media sharing space. • Ex: Dunking, Trust Fall, Eraser, Cinnamon, Pass Out, and other new ones that will be thought up and shared this year. • Horseplay of any kind • Ex: Running in halls; touching others, including tag, jumping or riding on a friend’s back, holding hands, walking down hallway arm-in-arm or hanging on a friend, carrying someone, tripping, pushing, pulling; jumping down or off of stairs; using elevator without permission; bothering a friend in restroom, including climbing over/under stalls, scaring someone, or invading their space. • Poor Choices on Social Media • Including texts, SnapChat, Instagram, and camera rolls

28. How can I monitor myself to avoid making choices that do not demonstrate the 4 Be’s? • Use the STAR method. • S is for STOP • When you can feel you are about to make a big decision, just stop and give yourself a moment to…. • T is for THINK • Think about whether the choice you are about to make is responsible, respectful or ready to learn. • A is for ADJUST • Adjust your thinking so that you can…. • R is for RESPOND • Respond in a responsible, respectful, or ready to learn way.
