Welcome • Katie Nahrwold – founder, Area School Environmental Group (ASEG), October, 2011Mission: to raise environmental awareness, network, and to inspire parents, administrators, teachers, students, and community members to take action to help the environment in our local elementary and high schools. • Raquelle Brennan – Library Faculty Advisor, NTHS Environmental Club

  3. Purpose • To inform one another about green initiatives at K-8 schools and NT; • To share ideas about best practices; • To develop a network of contacts for brainstorming, development, and support

  4. Introductions Name, School, Position, Current environmental programs and initiatives (lunchroom, clubs, recycling, composting, building, energy) Glencoe Kenilworth Northfield Wilmette Winnetka

  5. Discussion • What are the sender schools to New Trier doing environmentally? How? • What is New Trier doing? • Is this something students should expect as they progress in school from elementary to middle to high school?

New Trier Environmental Club The Law of conservation of energy tells us we can't get something for nothing, but we refuse to believe it." - Isaac Asimov Our Mission The mission of the New Trier Environmental Club is to create awareness and take action to protect an eco system only we can save from extinction. The Environmental Club is for students who are concerned about the future of the planet. From renewable energy to global warming to water shortage to endangered animals, we discuss global issues and take action at the local level. We clean the forest preserve, fundraise, host speakers, and promote recycling. All are welcome with ideas to make Earth Day everyday. Sponsors: Winnetka Campus / Ms. Raquelle Brennan

  7. Summary/Discussion • What would you like to see happen at your school/in conjunction with other schools/continuing at the middle or high schools? • What “success/changes” have individuals/schools had in succeeding with an initiative – what worked and how/why? 
 • How might we collaborate? Feeder schools together and New Trier? Beach, bike trail clean up?
