  • How many of Ohio’s state symbols can you name? At this Web site, you can find state symbols that you know and some unusual ones that you may never have heard about!

  • First click Ohio Symbols, then click StateAnimal. Read about the white-tailed deer.

QUESTIONS

  • Which five state symbols or resources do you like best?

  • Out of these five, which is your favorite and why?

  • Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper.


MAKE YOUR FLAG

  • Design a flag that features your favorite Ohio resource.

  • You may use a state symbol or other Ohio resource.

  • Use the paper and markers provided.


EXPLAIN

  • On a separate sheet of paper, explain why you selected that particular resource for your flag.

  • Place your flag on the bulletin board.


VOTE

  • Choose the one resource that is the most important state natural resource.

  • Write it down on a small piece of paper and place it in the voting box.


TABULATE RESPONSES

  • Separate responses into categories

  • Create a table on the white board illustrating all of the responses

  • Determine the winning response


HOMEWORK

  • Ask each member of your family to choose their favorite Ohio natural resource

  • Complete the “Endangered and Threatened Ohio” activity sheet

  • Complete the “Ohio, The Buckeye State!” activity sheet
