Broken limbs and casts

Amputees with artificial limbs

Those requiring the use of canes, crutches, and/or wheelchairs

  • Correctional employees will have to monitor this inmate’s physical activity

  • The employee must be aware that this inmate will require extra medical attention

  • i. Ensure that the inmate receives and takes all medication

  • ii. Increased visits to the medical unit

    Staff must be trained and certified in

    CPR & first aid

Close observation by staff to note any changes in the inmate’s physical symptoms

Inmates with limb impediments

  • Staff must be aware of the special security needs when interacting with inmates that have casts &/or wheel chairs. You must ensure that there is no contraband concealed there.

  • Classification and housing problems (cells with wider doors, toilets with hand rails, wheel chair ramps)

    • Special chairs for shower use

  • Need for extra protection**

  • The classification staff should ensure that any job assignment given to these inmates should be matched with their capabilities **
