  1. First, we must set the units to inches in Edge Cam. Open the program and following these steps. Pick 1 Pick 2 In the dialog box on the left, Browse to the following path, C:\Program Files\EdgeCAM\Cam\Support and select the mill_in.dft file. Before leaving the dialog box you should select the “Selected File” for the option Load on Entry. Pick OK to finish.

  2. Open the Inventor Solid Model Double Click

  3. Zoom Extents for the largest view Click here for an Isometric view

  4. Click for Automatic Stock creation Auto Stock placed correctly

  5. Pick Manufacture

  6. Enter the information in the four boxes as indicated by the arrows, then pick Job Data

  7. Enter the same name and Pick OK

  8. In the Browser, pick the Instructions tab Next, right click here and then pick Edit Now, pick here and select the Inches option, pick OK to finish

  9. Pick 1 Pick 2

  10. Select the surfaces to be machined by windowing the object. Start with a left click and then drag to the opposite corner

  11. Right click to exit this function

  12. Select the start point as shown on the right

  13. Pick the Find button to enter the ToolStore Modify the above settings as indicated by the arrows, then pick the Roughing Tab

  14. Pick Ballnose Pick ½ inch Ball Pick Select to Exit

  15. Pick the Find button to enter the ToolStore Carefully modify all entries above indicated by arrows and then pick the Finishing Tab

  16. Pick 1/8 inch Ball Pick Ballnose Pick Select to Exit

  17. Carefully modify all entries as indicated by the arrows Then pick OK You should now be able to observe the toolpaths being created

  18. Toolpaths have been generated

  19. If you are using the fully licensed version, pick here to Simulate Machining If you are using the Student Version, pick here to Simulate Machining

  20. Pick the start button Roughing toolpath simulation underway

  21. Pick here to generate the NC code. Note: You will only be able to generate code with fully licensed software

  22. Enter the project name and student name Job Name can be the same as CNC Name Enter class period and pick OK Enter Student Name and pick OK

  23. Save the code. It will save in the folder that the Inventor model came from. Generated Code
