  1. Designing for Both Sides of Badging Conceptual Framework Considerations for designing badge content. Developing a framework & toolkit for creating sets of badges for learning. Badging Platform Considerations for designing a platform for earning badges. What are the mechanics of a badging system within a SLN? • Varied Audiences • Sustainability & Scalability • Guided vs Self-directed • Learner Motivation • Developing Community • Mapping Tasks to Badges

  2. C21: Digital Media & Writing A hybrid in school, after school & online interdisciplinary curriculum designed to strengthen student’s traditional & digital literacies. Students complete narrative driven projects by communicating ideas across a range of mediums, earning badges as they show development of skills. A student workbook frames narrative, introduces badges and guides youth through learning activities. Students share & critique work through iRemix social learning network.

  3. Mentor Badges • Extending DYN’s existing hybrid PD model by leveraging badges • Mentors can level up from ‘Newbie’ to ‘Renaissance’ to ‘Lead Mentor • Allows for individualized & self-paced mentor PD pathways • 4 Domains: Pedagogy, Cultural Capital, Tech Fluency, Portfolio • iRemix SLN: badge portfolio, critique/feedback & staff community

  4. Chicago Summer of Learning DYN is creating & curating pathways of badged self-paced projects for Chicago youth participating in mayor’s city-wide badges for learning initiative. Mentors will support youth in navigating self-paced STEAM challenges in iRemix to earn a series of badges that unlock access to further opportunities offline.
