  1. What is gene? Gene is a section of DNA molecule that has a unique and specific boiological function. It is a unit of heredity that is transmitted from one generation to next generation, carries information for protein synthesis. Gene is like an instruction manual for cell growth and function. Locatable region of genomic sequence, corresponding to a unit of inheritance, which is associated with regulatory regions, transcribed regions and (or) other functional sequence region.

  2. Properties • Each individual has two copies of each gene, inherited one from each parent. • Self propagating • Stability

  3. Location • Present on gene string (chromosome). • In linear order arrangement. • Each gene has permanent locus on gene string (chromosome).
