Our lessons, hymns and prayers encourage and direct the Church to fulfill her role as her brother’s keeper. • As Jesus points out in today’s gospel lesson, the keys have been placed in our hands. May we be faithful watchmen for our Lord Jesus even as he watches over our souls.

  6. Prayer before Worship • Dear Lord, thank you for giving me my pastors and fellow Christians to watch over me and to lovingly call me to repentance should I ever stray from you and your Word. • Help me be a faithful watchman to others, too, for the sake of Jesus. • Amen.
