  1. Variations of Traditional Tents from Historic to Modern

  2. It's hard to place a date on the invention of tents but across the world, in various cultures there is prehistoric evidence of usage of tents around the world. While tents are usually associated with adventure activities like hiking and mountaineering, earlier they were largely used as substitutes for homes and protected primitive civilisations from harsh weather conditions like snow and rain. You can also get a taste of tent living by going for a vacation in some of those luxurious traditional camps in Rajasthan, which offer a unique getaway experience, away from the hustle and bustle of life.

  3. Prehistoric tents Archaeologists have recently excavated the oldest known remains of prehistoric tents which were subsequently carbon dated. They were dated at somewhere around 40.00 B.C.! That puts their usage around the Iron age era! There are also biblical references to the usage of basic tents so you can only imagine their antiquity. Its safe to say that tents have been used by humans for thousands of years now.

  4. The Yurt Associated with the ancient Nomadic people that flourished around Mongolia and The Steppes of the Central Asia, a Yurt is a round shaped tent which is covered with animal skins, usually Yaks and sheeps. These tents were extremely useful in protecting the dwellers from the extreme heat and cold that are a hallmark of the region. They also had intricate lattice work along the walls. The word Yurt itself is of Turkish origin.

  5. Arabian tents Much like the Mongolians, Arabian tents were largely used and invented by the Bedouins, which is a famous nomadic tribe of Arabia. Arabian tents were made and designed in such a way to protect from the scorching sun of the desert and keep the interiors cool. Today Arabian tents are used for all kinds of purposes especially at hotels for performances and restaurants and makes for a unique ambience.

  6. Tipi tents Tipi tents or Teepee tents were used by the native Indians of North and South America. Tipis are conical shaped tents made out of animal skins and wood to hold them together.
