Inductions pilot project • During 2009-10 academic year, across all academic schools at one of our campuses • Standard 15min presentation for all new starters regardless of subject/study mode • Supported by online materials • Textual and visual information and links • Adobe Captivate interactive tutorials • Demonstration videos

  5. Inductions - after Consistent approach across University: • Induction video • Drop in Learning Centre tours • Induction activities on VLE • IT inductions

  6. 1. Induction video • Document student experiences of Learning & Information Services • 5-10 minutes length • Non-scripted student opinions • To be used in general school inductions, or watched independently online

  7. 2. Drop in tours • Frequent tours during busy times of year • Multiple opportunities at different times of day/week to suit varying student needs • Students choose to come to a tour at a time suitable to them • Bookable, with maximum numbers per group

Induction activities • Hosted on VLE topic core to all students • Quizzes and activities covering: • Introduction to Learning & Information Services • Finding material to support your studies • Using your borrower account • Using your IT account • Can be used independently or to support other induction activities

  9. 4. IT inductions • Drop in sessions to support basics of IT account management • Workshops to support students getting access to wireless network
