    1. Health and Medical Assessment Measuring Preparedness of the Health and Medical Infrastructure

    2. Why Assess Preparedness Essential to future improvement Provides a common baseline with which we can assess all counties in the state Critical for continued future funding from federal agencies

    3. Assessment Benefits Provides a clear site picture on where we stand Provides clear direction on where we want to be Allows funding to be focused on areas of greatest need Folds into the Project Public Health Ready process

    4. Assessment Measures 22 assessment objectives were derived from various documents such as the Target Capabilities List, CDC, HRSA and DHS grant programs Objectives were further broken down into 187 capability or capacity measures

    5. Assessment Measures 2 Objectives and measures encompassed the entire health and medical infrastructure to include Public Health EMS Hospitals LRN Emergency Management Medical Examiner

    6. Assessment Conduct Region 5 volunteered to pilot the first assessment for the state Planners in each county were designated as the lead agents in coordinating the data collection effort Training was provided to all planners to ensure the assessment was standardized FDOH DEMO and RDSTF Co-Chairs informed all involved agencies in an effort to foster cooperation between agencies in the data collection effort

    7. Assessment Conduct 2 The complete list was sub-divided by the planners into functional lists and provided to the appropriate agencies Planners then contacted each agency and conducted interviews in an attempt to capture the true capability of the agency regarding each measure Assessment results were forwarded to the state for scoring

    8. Sample Assessment

    9. Post Assessment On measures with multiple agency input the planner was the deciding factor in determining overall score State compiled all the data and scheduled a meeting with all the planners The data was normalized by comparison among counties to ensure we all interpreted the measures in the same way

    10. Post Assessment 2 Each of the measures was reviewed and suggestions made to improve in order to reduce confusion and mis-interpretation State then re-compiled the data to arrive at a final assessment for each county

    11. Conclusion Assessment was very time-consuming Enhanced relationships with partner agencies as linkages were made more apparent Provides a clearer roadmap on actions needed to be taken Allows us to tie disparate programs together into a cohesive whole Allows us to focus on areas with greatest need Future funding should now be able to be targeted to areas that will produce the greatest results
