  3. Teaching aims: • To introduce something about American country music • To improve the students’ comprehension ability • Make the students grasp the useful words and phrases of this lesson

  4. Important points : • Find out the topic sentence of every paragraph • Grasp the usage of these important verbs: appear remain return bring-phrases • Difficult points: • The Past Perfect Tense(过去完成时）

  5. Teaching Steps: • Greeting: Good morning ,everyone! How are you today? Warming-up: Look at a picture of the popular American country music singer---Jane Denver. Then play his famous country music-COUNTRY ROAD to the students.

  10. return v.1. come or go back to a place回到某地 • e.g. We returned to school from home after the summer vocation.（假期过后，我们从家回到学校） • 2. return to sb or sth: come or go back to an early activity or condition回到原来的状态 • eg. I shall return to the question later（我将很快回到这个问题上来） • (idm) return to the fold: rejoin a group of people(重新加入组织）

  11. bring-phrases: • bring sth about: cause sth to happen　使　发生 • bring sth back : call sb to mind 回想起 • bring sth forward: move sth to an earlier time 使　提前 • bring sth off : manage to do sth difficult successful 成功完成某事 • Ok ，so much for the bring-phrases. If you want to know more about bring phrases ,please look up the dictionary.

  13. I • I will give you five minutes to go through the whole text to get the general idea of the text . Then I will ask some students to answer my questions. • Questions: • 1.What are the subjects for songs in the 1950s? • 2.What did they believe were the best things in their life? • 3.Find out the topic sentence of every paragraph.

  14. Answers: • 1. In the 1950s, the music was about love and money. • 2. They believe that the best things in life were free :sunshine, walks in the beauty of the country.(他们认为，人生最美好的东西都是可以自由享用的：阳光，笑声，乡村美景中漫步，朋友和音乐) • 3.The topic sentence is the sentence which expresses the main idea of the paragraph. If you know to find out the topic sentence ,it will help to improve your comprehension ability. The topic sentence of every paragraph is as follows:

(1)During the 1990s,American country music has become more and more difficult .(The topic sentence of the paragraph one is just the first sentence of the paragraph) • (2)American music is about love and money. • (3)Then in the 1960s song writers turned to other subjects. • (4)Today country music has returned. • (5)The first country singers sang while playing guitar. • (6)Country music today remains much the same as before.

The translation of the difficult sentences: • 1.Song writers are no longer writing about the modern values of the USA---money, success or expensive things to buy.(歌曲作者不在写美国的现代价值－－金钱，成就，或可购买的贵重物品） • 2.feeling alone in the modern world, the value of having good friends and so on（现代世界中的孤独感，交上好朋友的价值，等等） • 3.Political leaders were not well thought of（人们对政治领袖的看法不好）
