  4. Family • He was the oldest of 11 children. • Both of his parents had French. • He was self taught.

  5. His Mathematical Method • By the age of 19 Lagrange was appointed to professor of math at the Royal Artillery School in Turin, Italy. • This happened because Euler stated how impressed he was with Lagrange’s work on the tautochrone, which demonstrated his method of maxima and minima called “Calculus of Variation”. • His discoveries had a very important part to do with the not yet know subject, Calculus.

  6. Facts • He received two offers to work at Berlin Academy. • He accepted the offer and succeeded as the Director of Mathematics on November 6, 1766. • After that he moved on to Paris Academy of Science where he stayed for the rest of his carreer.
