  1. What is being done to help the Capercaillie? The Capercaillie faces a number of serious problems : destruction of forests disturbance by humans shooting by hunters flying into deer fences

  2. It is now protected by a law called the EUROPEAN BIRD DIRECTIVE. • In 2002 a grant of £4.5 million was awarded to help conservation in Scotland. • Work is carried out to: • manage the habitat • mark or remove deer fences • control predators such as foxes and stoats • manage shooting
