What is the “lean” approach? • Has origins in car manufacturing • Takes a process-based view • Reduces waste within processes • Helps to do more with less • By… • Mapping out the steps involved in a process • Cutting out waste and unnecessary steps • Continuously improving the flow of actions that give added-value

  5. Our work • Employee ‘buy-in’ to the concept and aims • Workshops and seminars • Agency-wide efforts to identify issues • Project team appointed • Pilot project into recruitment processes • Abuse of dominance and cartel investigations

  7. Lessons learned • Continual improvements – no “end point” • Systematic development requires resources and time • Leadership and management are key, but so too is staff engagement • Big and small improvements are equally valuable • Investigations may not be shorter, but will be more efficient
