  1. Annapolis • The Capital City of Maryland. • Founded in 1649. • Home of the United States Naval Academy, St. John’s College & King Williams School. • All 4 signers of the Declaration of Independence lived in Annapolis.

  2. Blue Crab • The Blue Crab is a common marine invertebrate in the Western Atlantic Ocean. • A lot of people like to eat blue crabs. • Their legs are blue.

  3. Chesapeake Bay

  4. The Ark & The Dove • The 2 ships that brought settlers to St. Mary’s City. • The Ark & The Dove stopped first at a small island in the Potomac River. • The Ark & The Dove have sailed through the Chesapeake Bay. • The Ark was bigger than The Dove.

  5. Maryland’s Eastern Shore • Next to the Choptank and Patuxent Rivers. • There may only be 10 inches of snow in the winter, but there is more rain. • The mountains can have up to120 inches of snowfall a year,

  6. Fort McHenry Fort McHenry is at the mouth Baltimore harbor. The commander at Fort McHenry wanted a flag to mark his fort . He wanted it to be huge, so the enemy could see it from far away.

  7. NASA Goddard Space Center • Located in greenbelt MD • It was established in May 1961 by Dr. Robert Jastrow • Galloway who helped create NASA died at age 102.

  8. Havre de Grace • Havre de Grace is a city in Harford county Maryland. Havre de grace is a small city but has 300 recent years. They bombed the town of St. Michaels and burned Havre de grace.

  10. John Hopkins University • John Hopkins University is in Baltimore Maryland. • They teach students medical things. • I was at least a century old when it was made in 1905.

  11. Kent Island • Kent Island is the largest island in the Chesapeake Bay. • Kent Island was found in 1631 making the Kent Fort the oldest English establishment. • Kent Island is part of Queen Ann’s county Maryland & Easter Maryland shore region.

  12. Laurel, Maryland • Laurel is located in Prince Georges county. • Laurel is near John Hopkins University. • The Laurel Museum was built in 2007 May 13.

  13. Mason-Dixon Line • Maryland and Pennsylvania disagree for many years about the boundary between them. • In 1763 the English government sent two surveyors to determine the border. • There names were Charles Mason and Jerimiah Dixon and the border was named the Mason-Dixon Line.

  14. National Baltimore Aquarium • The aquarium is in Baltimore. • It has been open since 1981. • The aquarium houses more than 1,600 creatures. • The aquarium even has a dolphin show.

Ocean City, Maryland • Ocean city is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. • Assateague Island wide beach and sand dunes are port of the Atlantic coastal plains behind, it you can see ocean city with its man-made features. • To reach ocean city, some people took a ferry boat across the bay and then a train across eastern mar land

Prince George’s County, Maryland • Prince Georges county was formed from land in Calvert and Charles county by an act of the general assembly on St. George’s day on April 23 1696. • The prince George county flag looks like this. • The county was named of prince Georges of Denmark husband of princess Anne heir to the throne of England.

  17. Quakers • The first Quakers known to visit the colonies of Maryland and Virginia was Elizabeth. • Many Quakers were abolitionists. • Elisha Tyson, a Quaker was a famous abolitionist from Maryland.

  18. Cal Ripkin, Jr. • A baseball player for the Baltimore Orioles. • He NEVER missed a baseball game! • Cal Ripkin Jr. played for 16 years.

  19. Six Flags in Largo, Maryland • Located in Prince George’s County, Maryland. • Opened in 1982. • At Six Flags, you can play games, go swimming, ride roller coasters, and lots of other fun stuff.

  20. Harriet Tubman • Harriet Tubman was a runaway slave from Maryland. • During the Civil War, Harriet Tubman was a spy. • After Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery, she returned to help free other slaves.

  21. University of Maryland • Started out as a Medical College in Baltimore. • It is a suburban 3,688 acre campus with easy access to Baltimore and Washington D.C. • It is a state supported University founded in 1856, and is part of the University System of Maryland.

  22. Giovanni da Verazzano • Giovanni da Verazzano was born in Tuscany, Italy in 1485. • Giovanni da Verazzano died in 1528. • Giovanni da Verazzano was the first European to enter New York bay in 1524. • Giovanni da Verazzano was the first explorer to sail through the Chesapeake bay.

  23. Woodrow Wilson Bridge • Woodrow Wilson was the 28th President of the United States. • The Bridge is named after former President Woodrow Wilson. • The bridge has 12 lanes.

Baltimore Zoo • The Baltimore ZOO was created by act of the Maryland state legislature on April 7,1876. • Today the 160-plus acre zoo is owned by the city of Baltimore and leased to the state of Maryland. • Polar bear watch , the zoo new state-of-art exhibit about life on the edge of the arctic features an authentic tundra buggy from which visitors, can watch-Alaska and magnet cavort in and out of the water .
