  6. How Heat Changes Matter? Phase changes happen when certain points are reached: freezing point, boiling point and melting point.

  7. Heat Makes a Difference • Particles in a solid move very little. • Particles in a liquid move and flow. • Particles in a gas move around quickly.

  8. Measuring and Preserving Heat Energy We often use the Fahrenheit scale to measure temperature.

  9. What is insulation? Insulation is a barrier that minimizes the transfer of heat energy from one material to another by reducing the conduction, convection and/or radiation effects.
