  36. Where to Find Accomplishments Sometimes problems are accomplishments in disguise.

  37. It’s all about perspective! Problem: Too much work / co-workers were fired or resigned Question: Did you manage the same or a greater amount of work while dealing with cuts in staff? Accomplishment: • Met all production deadlines and goals despite a 30% cutback in staff and an increased workload. Or… • Performed the volume of work previously handled by two full-time employees.

  38. Begin with your PAR story… Then drop the ‘P’roblem • Changed shipping partners, which resulted in a decrease in shipping costs.

  39. Lead with the result! Good: • Changed shipping partners, which resulted in a decrease in shipping costs. Better: • Decreased shipping costsby changing shipping partners.

  46. Special Circumstances INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Know thatInternational CVs are differentthan US resumes. Do not record personal information on your resume. (Age, race, religion, national origin, marital status, social security numbers, visa requirements, or pictures.) Dofocus on your accomplishments! If you use a different name in the US, list that name first, your birth name in parenthesis, and then last name. Tina (Tian) Yong

  47. Some Final Notes… • State accurate facts (20% increase), not judgments (big increase). • Always be truthful! • One to two lines per skill / accomplishment statement is fine. • Avoid using possessives and contractions. • Avoid abbreviations. • Spell out the word “and.” • …and don’t rely on spell check alone.

  48. Some Final Notes… Education: Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey Curses in Spanish Don’t forget to proofread!
