  1. ACTION PLAN Adila Salman Junior V s Mathematics The City School Junior C North Nazimabad

  2. Long Term Goals To reinforce the previous concepts and extend the concepts of place value of different systems and four operations up to digit numbers

  3. Short Term Goals By the end of the month students will be able to: • Write the place values of 8 digit numbers using Pakistani and International system • Compare the numbers by using symbols<, >, = • Recognize odd numbers and even numbers up to 4 digit numbers • Write numbers 1000,10 000, 100 000 more than and less than a given number • Round off 3 and 4 digit numbers to the nearest 100 and 1000 • Organize numbers in ascending and descending order • Arrange two or more numbers vertically with correct place value • Add two or more 6- digit numbers • Use the operation to solve word problems

  4. Bloom’s Taxonomy Taxonomy” simply means “classification”, so the well-known taxonomy of learning objectives is an attempt (within the behavioral paradigm) to classify forms and levels of learning In 1956, Benjamin Bloom headed a group of educational psychologists who developed a classification of levels of intellectual behavior important in learning. During the 1990's a new group of cognitive psychologist, lead by Lorin Anderson (a former student of Bloom's), updated the taxonomy reflecting relevance to 21st century work. Note the change from Nouns to Verbs to describe the different levels of the taxonomy. Note that the top two levels are essentially exchanged from the Old to the New version. NEWVERSION OLD VERSION

  5. STANDARDS

  6. Use of Blooms Taxonomy Key Terms Topic Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy Remembering Numbers Identifying the place values,  Recall specific details, information, methods and knowledge Understanding Numbers Focusing the teacher’s explanation regarding systems, comparing , ordering , even and Odd and grasping theconcepts. Understand uses and implications of terms, facts, methods, procedures, oncepts

  7. Use of Blooms Taxonomy Key Terms Topic Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy Applying Numbers Practice theory, solve problems, use information in the new situations, Connecting the explanation to the real life situations Using understanding in a meaningful way Analyzing Numbers Analyze structure, recognize assumptions, breaking down material into parts, Taking understanding to deeper level

  8. Use of Blooms Taxonomy Key Terms Topic Use of Bloom’s Taxonomy Evaluating Numbers I can critically examine my work Creating Numbers Putting information together in a new and creative way. Create new problems with their solutions

  9. Use of 21st century Approaches • Key Terms • .Listening and • Speaking • Giving Direction • Skills • Observing and • Monitoring Skills • Questioning Skills • Encouraging Skills • Intervening Skills Topic Numbers All Sub topics Use of 21st century Approach Use of 21st century approaches will be ensured while introducing the lesson and during the progression of the lesson . The objective of the key terms of the approaches is to develop strategies for promoting these skills. Teacher will typically spend 90 percent of time in facilitating learning and 10 percent of her time in providing direct instruction.

  10. Time Line (AUGUST 2011) Week Topic . 1st ( 8-s12) Recap of the previous knowledge Numbers Place value ( International and Pakistani system) 2nd.(15-19) Place value Comparing Ordering 3rd (22-26) Odd and Even Numbers More than and less Round off numbers to nearest 100 and 1000 Addition 4th (29-30) Addition Word problems

  11. Instructional Strategies and Tasks • Introduction of the topics will be started using their past knowledge and the topics will be extended with new applications and methods involved . • Diagnostic test will be prepared and given to students to decide where they stand. The strategies for the progression of an individual child according to their result will be planned. • Charts showing Place values of different systems will be shown, explained and discussed. Activities will be done for their better understanding. • e.g.. Writing a number on the board 4561 and asking several questions based on these numbers. • Students will apply their understanding skills in the situations given and move towards higher order thinking skills. Analyzing the situations utilizing their critical thinking skills and evaluating their performance will lead to creating new questions ,problems and their solutions.

  12. Instructional Strategies and Tasks • Adopted activities will focus on numbers and operations and emphasis will be given on understanding a variety of problem solving strategies and word problems in groups or pairs. • Group work and pair work will be encouraged to promote collaboration skills

  13. Topic • Numbers • Place value • Comparing • Even and Odd Numbers • More or less • Rounding Off • Ordering • Addition • 21st Century Approach used • Giving Direct Instruction • Listening and speaking • Observing and monitoring • Questioning • Encouraging • Intervening • 21st century skills • Developed • Listening • Speaking • Sharing • Participating • Developing questions • Finding answers • Relationship • Problems • Children may be reluctant to speak up • All the students may not participate in groups • Solutions • Encouraging skill will help the teacher to motivate them • Monitoring, observing and assigning task to each child in group according to their capability will work here

  14. Application of Blooms Taxonomy in the Topic • Topic : Numbers, Addition • Sub Topics: Place value , Comparing, Odd and Even Number, More or less, Rounding off, Ordering Learning Outcomes: By the end of the month students will be able to: • Write the place values of 8 digit numbers using Pakistani and International system • Compare the numbers by using symbols<, >, = • Recognize odd numbers and even numbers up to 4 digit numbers • Write numbers 1000,10 000, 100 000 more than and less than a given number • Round off 3 and 4 digit numbers to the nearest 100 and 1000 • Organize numbers in ascending and descending order • Arrange two or more numbers vertically with correct place value • Add two or more 6- digit numbers

  15. Application of Blooms Taxonomy in the Topic Activities: Mental Math question will be written on the board each day and the name of the student will be written on the board as “Student of the Day". A Sheet will be prepared in name will be recorded and the student with the most correct answer will be provided a certificate by the end of the month.

  16. Activity: Worksheet will be prepared to show the different place value systems and that is based on the stages of Bloom’s Taxonomy . Starting from remembering, understanding , applying ( exercise is given in the end) analyzing, evaluating and creating their own numbers showing the both systems.

  17. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT • My heartiest thanks to all for providing me this valuable opportunity :- • My Headmistress Mrs. Saba Khalid. • My Senior Mistress Mrs. Sadaf Armaghan. • Master Trainers. • Intel Course Planner.

  18. CONCLUSION With the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy and 21st century skills into the classroom, my students’ learning will be strengthened and they will have better understanding of the concepts.
