  2. Journal • For our project, please think of 4 types of stock characters (students) that are present within the walls of Carrollton High School. • Consider the elements of S.T.E.A.L. • This journal will count as the individual portion of your project.

  3. CCGPS • ELACC11-12L1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

  4. CCGPS • ELACC11-12W4: Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

  5. CCGPS • ELACC11-12SL1: Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions(one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 11-12 topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.

  6. CCGPS • ELACC11-12RL2: Determine two or more themes or central ideas of text and analyze their development over the course of the text, including how they interact and build on one another to produce a complex account; provide an objective summary.

  7. CCGPS • ELACC11-12RI7: Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in different media or formats as well as in words in order to address a question or solve a problem.

  8. CCGPS • ELACC11-12SL5: Make strategic use of digital media in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence to add interest.

  9. Canterbury Tales • Groups of no more than 3. • Everyone should have some characters to contribute to their group.

  10. Stock Characters • Specify which types of characters that you see at Carrollton High School.

  11. Literature and Society Connection • You should be writing about the types of people at the school. • Who are they? • What do they do? • What are some issues that they face?

  12. Satire • Satire: Literary elements that criticize society. • Here is your chance to criticize, make fun of certain elements of Carrollton High School!

  13. Irony • Incorporate situational, verbal, and dramatic irony to strengthen your satirical elements.

  14. Ideas for characters • Take pictures, record video of yourself dressed up as a character! • Feel free to bring props, cameras, and smart phones to aid in your project.. • Use visual images of of famous movie/television versions of the stock character you have chosen. • Must reference television show/movie from which this character came. • Must have minimum of 3 images per stock character. • Use a simple character creation software website. • http://unique.rasterboy.com/

  15. S.T.E.A.L. • No longer than 25 lines. • Model a character description from Canterbury Tales • Must address all the element of S.T.E.A.L. • Speech • Thoughts • Effect • Action • Looks.

  16. S.T.E.A.L. • Hard copy of the S.T.E.A.L. portion will be turned in, attached to a copy of the rubric. • Can put S.T.E.A.L. portions on the PowerPoint, read from hard copy, or if using video, can recite the lines.

  17. Disclaimers • Do NOT criticize anyone specifically by name! • Make sure all images and content are school appropriate. • If you are not sure if something is inappropriate, please ask!

  18. Tasks for Today • Vote on characters to be used. • Decide how you wish to create, upload your visual images. • Decide which format to use to present your project to the class. • Divide up tasks among group.
