  2. Why a program review? • Need to increase the percentage of students reading at grade level • Need a holistic approach to analyze literacy issues • Need to determine if there is a way to simplify our practice and get better results

  3. Committee Steps • Formed a committee representative of all buildings, grade levels and literacy groups • Read and discussed reading research • Compared FHSD assessment practices to the research • Determined FHSD needs based on the research • Examined and chose assessments

  4. All students K-5 take universal screening AIMSweb 3 times a year (3-10 minutes) Literacy Assessment Sequence At or Above Benchmark Below Benchmark Use decision-making model to determine whether further diagnostic testing is needed in order to plan interventions. No further testing needed until screenings #2 and #3. Begin interventions and progress monitoring every 2-3 weeks Administer DRA-2 (one-on-one). Plan interventions based on results and progress monitor every 2-3 weeks.
