OISC Club Coach Training 2010 AIMS & OBJECTIVES • Provide coaches with sound teaching methodology to enhance their lesson/practice presentations on shooting. • Whole -Part - Whole Method of Teaching. • Thematic Approach to teaching & learning. • Perception, Decision ,Response • Assimilation time discussion. • Use of STOP! FREEZE! approach to Coaching. • Provide suitable content relating to the subject of shooting which will give the coaches ample material to teach their teams both tactically and technically the crucial elements of shooting leading to improved performances on the field of play both individually and team wise.

  7. OISC Club Coach Training 2010Shooting Scoring Facts • 60 percent of all goals are scored from within 12 yards. Of those goals, 74 percent are first time strikes. • 94 percent of all goals are scored from within 25 yards. Of those goals, 80 percent of all goals are scored from moves of four of less passes. • On average, it takes 9 strikes to score a goal. • 50 percent of strikes will be off target • 75 percent of all headed goals result from crosses- 21 percent of all goals are headers.

OISC Club Coach Training 2010Shooting Scoring Facts • 10 shots on target will normally ensure a game is not lost • 50 percent plus of all goals (65-71 percent) come from first time strikes. • 40 percent of goals from opposition headed clearances. • 50 percent of all goal scoring assists” are first-time. • 70 percent of all goals against come from “own-half breakdown.”

OISC Club Coach Training 2010 Scoring Facts • 22 percent of goals are scored at the far post. • 1 in 5 goals are headed. • 16 percent of goals scored are right foot volleys. • 1 v. 1 situations on the goalkeeper produce 5 percent of all goals scored. • Finishing from outside the box: • Volleys: 11 percent • Ground shots: 82 percent • Right foot: 70 percent • Left foot: 30 percent

OISC Club Coach Training 2010 Scoring Facts • 50 percent of shots from inside the penalty area are on target. • 35 percent of shots from outside the penalty area are on target. • Of all shots on target, 28 percent of these, from inside the penalty area, will be a goal. • 9 percent of all shots from outside the area will be a goal. • 75 percent of all goals scored are scored using one touch.

  12. OISC Club Coach Training 2010 Shooting (1) PLAYERS: • (I) Do not seem to fully understand the IMPLICATIONS of shooting and creating shooting opportunities. Players: • (ii) Generally understand they must shoot when near the goal. • (iii) Generally understand why they should shoot. (To Score Goals). • (iv) Know instinctively how to shoot BUT are not aware of their reasons for missing. i.e., Lack of Technique or Poor Decision Making. • (v) Are less likely to know where they must shoot the ball in order to give someone else a BETTER CHANCE at scoring than they themselves have in certain positions.

To do this he/she, on the one hand, gives them FREEDOM & on the other hand, DICTATORSHIP. • (a) Identify Shooting Areas: • Central Positions Close to Goal: Further From Goal. • Flank Positions “ “ “ “ “ • From Set Plays “ “ “ “ “ • From 1 vs 1 “ “ • (b) Rehearsal is Crucial: Must Always be a part of a practice. • (c) Crosses should go into 18 yd box early. (Space Created, Ball Delivered, Player Arrives.) (d) When attacking the NEAR POST, SHOOT ACROSS the Keeper. Hit the ball /shoot across the 2nd six yard box or Shoot/Deliver to the FAR POST. • (e) If a player reaches the GOAL LINE, they should “PULL THE BALL BACK TOWARD THE PENALTY SPOT”.
